A poem written to raise awareness of bullying in school. Hope you'll enjoy it! (:
The Underdog of Tomorrow (edited)
Success could not keep up with me.
I raced ahead, exhilaration taking over like a master,
As merciless as those I run from.
A room full of giants,
The wave of fear reared its head
Drowning all other thoughts, crushing every sensation.
I run, breathless
The bell ringing too slow.
Faster, and faster,
The sound of their cars shoot at me,
knives to my ears.
Then quickly, nimbly,
Up in the tree I hide
My sobs
Unheard in the sea of jeers below.
Ducking their shots
The stones I throw back --
I wish I were one of them
I forget myself in the world of books,
Deluded that nightmares would pass.
But this is me,
This is I
The underdog of tomorrow.
